The Doctrine of the Holy Scriptures
We believe that the Bible is God's written revelation to man, and thus the 66 books of the Bible given to us by the Holy Spirit constitute the plenary (inspired equally in all parts) Word of God (1 Corinthians 2:7-14; 2 Peter 1:20-21). We believe that God's Word was verbally inspired by God in every word (2 Timothy 3:16) and thus absolutely inerrant and infallible in the original autographs.

We teach that by means of nature, God communicates something about Himself to all people, in all places, at all times. General revelation teaches man enough about God to make his unbelief inexcusable (Romans 1:20). Although sufficient to teach men about God it cannot impart saving knowledge of God (Romans 10:14-17).

Since general revelation is inadequate in its ability to make men wise unto salvation, God communicated something further about Himself to particular people in specific places at specific times in order to enable them to come to saving knowledge of Him. Today, the Bible is the authoritative record of God's special revelation to mankind. The Scripture itself declares its own sufficiency as the true record concerning Christ and His work. This declaration eliminates the need for ongoing extra-biblical revelation to guide the believer in daily life (2 Timothy 3:16-17; Hebrews 1-2; 1 Peter 2:2; 2 Peter 1:3).

We believe that God breathed His Scripture in that He superintended the process of communicating His own infallible, authoritative word to mankind through the personalities and, consequently, pens of possibly 40 men over a period of 1,500 years. The Holy Scriptures state that the Word of God was not written as an act of human will, rather, "Holy men of God, spoke as they were moved by the Holy Spirit" (2 Peter 1:21).

We teach that the Bible constitutes the only infallible rule of faith and practice (Psalms 119:105; Matthew 4:4; Matthew 5:18; Matthew 24:35; John 8:31-32; John 10:35; John 16:12-13; John 17:17; Acts 20:32; 1 Corinthians 2:13; 1 Peter 2:2; 2 Peter 1:20-21).

We teach that while there may be several and various applications to any given passage, there can only be one true interpretation. In order that we come to the correct interpretation we believe that the Bible teaches that we must be ardent students of the Scriptures (2 Timothy 2:15), and that man's ability to understand the significance of Scripture's communication is limited because of the sinfulness and finiteness of man (Matthew 13:13-15; Mark 8:18; 1 Corinthians 2:14; 2 Corinthians 4:4). Therefore, we accept each passage in its literal meaning which is studied in its grammatical, historical, and theological context under the illuminating ministry of the Holy Spirit to enable believers to understand the significance of Scripture (1 Corinthians 2:12-14; 2 Corinthians 4:6; Ephesians 1:17-18).
